Sad Girlz Luv Money
Sad Girlz Luv Money delves into the complex relationship between happiness and wealth, questioning the notion that financial success alone can bring emotional fulfillment. The realistic depiction of a hundred-dollar bill is interwoven with symbols of happiness and mental well-being—smiley faces, serotonin molecules, B12, CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), and the suicide hotline number—each a subtle nod to the struggles many face in their pursuit of joy.
In adding these “happy symbols” to a representation of currency, I wanted to spark a dialogue around the idea that money often serves as a temporary fix for deeper emotional needs. The piece explores the tension between societal pressures to chase wealth and the personal battles many endure with mental health and self-worth. Through this work, I invite viewers to reflect on their own definitions of happiness, the impact of consumer culture, and the importance of acknowledging and addressing mental health alongside material success.
