To Eat or Not to Eat
In “To Eat or Not to Eat,” I explore the constant internal battle many women face with societal expectations around body image and diet culture. From counting calories to chasing an unattainable ideal shaped by the male gaze, the weight of these pressures often overshadows the simple joy of nourishing ourselves.
Coco, my dog and muse for this piece, embodies pure, unadulterated enthusiasm for life’s simplest pleasures. She drools over the same kibble meal after meal with a level of excitement that feels almost revolutionary in contrast to the restrictive mindset so many of us adopt. Through her, I reflect on the freedom that comes with shedding the need for external validation and embracing an unapologetic appetite for life—whether it’s food, self-expression, or simply existing as we are.
This painting is a call to reimagine what it means to eat, live, and find joy. To channel a little more Coco in our lives and reject the notion that our worth is tied to a number on a scale or a size on a tag.
